Virat Kohli’s heartfelt gesture for Dhoni at Chinnaswamy, broadcaster’s emotional question sparks buzz

New Delhi: Chennai Super Kings suffered their ninth loss of IPL 2025, failing to chase a 180-run target and remaining at the bottom of the standings. This defeat, against Royal Challengers Bangalore, marks RCB’s first ever double over the five-time champions and sends CSK’s already eliminated team further down the table. RCB’s narrow victory propelled them to the top of the points table.

After their team’s defeat, MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli embraced. Subsequently, Kohli showed his respect for Dhoni by removing his cap during the post-match handshakes with the Chennai Super Kings captain.

Star Sports, the IPL’s official broadcaster, posted a photo of Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni interacting on social media, prompting a strong emotional response from fans with its accompanying caption. “One last time?” it read on the image of Kohli shaking hands with Dhoni. And it sent fans into overdrive.

Following Chennai’s playoff elimination, MS Dhoni has remained silent on his future. However, he playfully responded to a question about returning next season, prompted by enthusiastic fan support during a recent match.

Dhoni recently responded ambiguously to a question about his participation in the next match, stating that he is unsure of his future involvement. This follows an earlier comment he made in a podcast where he indicated he would decide on his retirement in the coming months.

“Not right now (about retirement). I’m still playing IPL, and I’ve kept it very simple, I take it one year at a time,” Dhoni said.

“I’m 43, by the time I’ll finish this July, I’ll be 44. I’ve 10 months to decide whether I’ve to play one more year. It’s not me who is deciding, it’s the body which tells you whether you can or cannot. One year at a time. Fully focussed on what needs to be done right now. We will see after that, after 8-10 months,” added the five-time IPL-winning captain.
