One of the leading stars in the industry, he has about four National Awards to his name as well.
The actor has a golden hall of fame. But, he has experienced certain personal setbacks as well. The actor was married twice and both relations culminated in a divorce. His first separation stirred controversy. The name of the actor is Kamal Haasan.
Kamal Haasan started out as a child artist and was born in a Tamil Iyengar Brahmin family. Today, he is superstar who has a versatile shades in his cap. Despite professional success, his personal life often became centre of scrutiny riddled with complexities.
Haasan, first, tied the knot with Vani Ganapathy who was trained dancer. Unfortunately, relationship got strained over the years and they ended up in a divorce after a decade of their marriage. By that time, there were several speculations about his relationship with Sarika who he married down the line and became parents to two daughters- shruti and Akshara. But, this relationship also ended in separation.
One time, the ‘Kalki’ actor had shared about the breakdown of his first marriage in Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, he mentioned, “It wasn’t working, at least for me. I won’t lie. It went beyond caring; it became harsh and I wanted to be happy. I was fast losing faith in the institution of marriage itself at that time. I always spoke of it loudly, to the shock of people. I said it on the first day I got married that I didn’t want to.”
Later, he once revealed how his first marriage led to his “bankruptcy.” Speaking with Deccan Chronicle in 2015, Vani Ganapthy addressed the issue stating, “For 28 years, we have been divorced. I have always refrained from mudslinging because it’s a very private affair… but we have both moved on now. Why does he behave like a man obsessed?”
Ganapathy refuted the claims and also expressed her disbelief at his bankruptcy claims, questioning the logic behind. She said, “He even refused to give me used appliances from our shared flat. What could I expect from a man like that? In what court in the world has alimony been allowed to drive someone to bankruptcy? I was completely shocked when I read it. His ego must have been hurt when I walked out of the marriage, but so much has happened since. He could have said financial crisis and let the subject pass.”
Today Kamal Haasan is not just an actor but assumed other roles of direction, production, writes screenplay, his given his voice to some songs etc.
