NRI youth’s death due to stray dog chase: Cong blames MC, wants check on menace

Senior Congress leaders have held the Punjab government and the Phagwara Municipal Corporation responsible for the recent death of an NRI youth, allegedly caused by a stray dog chase that led to a fatal motorcycle accident.

Speaking to the media today, District Congress Committee secretary Karamjit Singh Bittu, Block Urban Congress president Tulsi Ram Khosla and other leaders stated that the deceased, a resident of Chahal Nagar, lost control over his motorcycle after being chased by a stray dog, resulting in his death.

Highlighting the growing menace of stray dogs in the region, the leaders also pointed out another recent incident in which the wife of a former panchayat member from Kotrani village was bitten by a stray dog and is currently under treatment at Phagwara Civil Hospital. According to them, the same dog has attacked over a dozen people in recent days, yet no action has been taken by the municipal authorities.

The Congress leaders revealed that a memorandum had been submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Kapurthala nearly two months ago, warning of the potential consequences if the stray dog issue was not addressed. “Had timely and concrete steps been taken, the precious life of this NRI youth could have been saved,” Bittu added.

Calling the incident tragic but preventable, the Congress leaders demanded immediate and effective measures from the administration to curb the stray dog menace in Phagwara and other cities across Punjab.

When contacted, Phagwara Municipal Commissioner Dr Akshita Gupta assured of taking all necessary steps to curb the stray dog menace.
