Breaking News: India Halts Chenab River Flow, Threatens Water Crisis in Pakistan | ABP NEWS

India has taken a bold step by halting the flow of water from the Chenab River through the Baglihar Dam, which has had significant consequences for Pakistan. Reports indicate that the water level in Sialkot, Pakistan, has dropped by six feet, reaching a dangerously low level of just 22 feet. This is critical, as the Chenab River needs to maintain at least 12 feet of water to remain navigable, and with the water levels dropping below that threshold, the river cannot be accessed for transportation or irrigation. The Baglihar Dam, located in Jammu and Kashmir's Ramban district, stands 140 meters high and 350 meters long. It has been a point of contention between India and Pakistan since its construction. While Pakistan had raised objections during the planning phase and even approached the World Bank in 2005, the dam was eventually completed under India's control. India now has the ability to control the water flow at will, which is a powerful strategic tool. If India decides to release water from the dam in full force, over 10,000 cubic meters of water could flow into Pakistan, causing widespread flooding, especially in regions already facing water scarcity. This sudden release of water could devastate Pakistan's crops, as the forceful water release would also carry silt and debris, damaging agriculture. India’s control over this water supply puts immense pressure on Pakistan, which could face a severe water crisis as a result.
