Breaking News: India Launches 'Water Strike' Against Pakistan, Suspends Water Flow from Key Dams

India has taken significant steps to leverage water resources as a strategic tool in its ongoing tensions with Pakistan. Following the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, India has begun blocking water flow to Pakistan from critical rivers. One of the first moves was halting the flow from Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district, particularly affecting the Baglihar dam, which had previously allowed water to flow to Pakistan. Additionally, India has now focused on the Kishanganga dam and may soon block water flow from the Jhelum river, which could further cripple Pakistan's water supply. India’s actions are being referred to as a “water strike,” with Pakistan potentially facing severe shortages. The gates of the Salal dam, another crucial point of water flow, have been closed, and plans are underway to increase the height of the Kishanganga dam, which would boost its power generation capacity from 400 megawatts to potentially over 1,000 megawatts. This series of actions, which India views as a response to Pakistan’s ongoing provocations, could leave Pakistan in a dire situation, as it relies heavily on these water sources. India’s strategic use of water resources is proving to be a potent tool in its broader diplomatic and security strategy.
