New Delhi/Islamabad: India and Pakistan are on the brink of war. In this situation, reactions are coming in from countries around the world. Some countries are calling for peace and dialogue, while others are standing openly with either India or Pakistan. However, the number of such countries is limited. In this context, let’s see which countries have openly supported either India or Pakistan after the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, amidst the changed security environment.

China has openly supported Pakistan amid tensions with India. China has stated that it will support Pakistan’s sovereignty and maintain friendship with it. It has also supported Pakistan’s demand for an international investigation into the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. On Thursday, May 1, Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. During this meeting, Shehbaz Sharif informed the Chinese ambassador about the recent tensions between India and Pakistan. Jiang stated that China understands Pakistan’s legitimate security concerns and supports its efforts to protect national sovereignty and security interests.

Amid changing circumstances following the Pahalgam attack, Turkey has announced its support for Pakistan. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke to Shehbaz Sharif and assured him of all kinds of assistance. There are also reports that Turkey has sent a large shipment of weapons to Pakistan via military transport airplanes. However, Turkey has denied this. Not only that, but amid tensions with India, the commander of the Turkish Air Force and the head of the intelligence agency have also visited Pakistan.

The friendship between Azerbaijan and Pakistan is well-known. Both countries support each other in the name of Islam. Azerbaijan has also supported Pakistan amid tensions with India. It has raised the issue of the United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding Kashmir and made calls for peace. Azerbaijan has demanded an international investigation into Pakistan regarding the Pahalgam attack and emphasized seeking solutions through dialogue instead of war.

Israel has openly expressed its support for India amid tensions with Pakistan. Immediately after the Pahalgam attack, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli embassy in India, the ambassador, and other senior Israeli leaders condemned the incident. Netanyahu also spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express his condolences and support. Despite being embroiled in a war with Hamas in the Gaza Strip, Israel has assured India of all kinds of assistance.

Following the Pahalgam attack, Italy has also supported India. Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni expressed sorrow over the incident and called for strict action against the perpetrators. Italy has also announced all kinds of support for India. During Giorgia Meloni’s tenure, bilateral relations between India and Italy have strengthened significantly. Italy is a major country in the European Union.

France has also supported India after the Pahalgam attack. French President Emmanuel Macron expressed sorrow over the Pahalgam attack and announced every possible assistance to India. He mentioned taking strict action against the perpetrators. Besides being one of the world’s superpowers, France is also a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). It is also a major defense partner of India.
