School Fine: 33 schools in Uttar Pradesh fined Rs 1 lakh each, know the reason

UP News: 33 schools affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) Board in Sambhal, Uttar Pradesh have been fined Rs 1 lakh each. These schools were accused of making children buy expensive books. Whereas the rule was that children should study through the books of National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).

The order issued from the office of the District Magistrate in Sambhal said – Officers were appointed to investigate the textbooks used in all CBSE and ICSE schools of Sambhal district. The investigation report submitted by the investigating officers was thoroughly examined by the District Fee Regulatory Committee.

The DM’s order said that the investigation by the officials found that the schools were running textbooks of private publications and students were being forced to buy textbooks from identified book sellers.

What did the DM say in the order?

The order states that DM Rajendra Pansia, following the powers conferred under subsection 10 (a) of section 8 of chapter two of the Self-financed Independent Schools (Fee Regulation) Act 2018, imposes a fine of Rs 1 lakh each and orders that the imposed amount be deposited by the schools in the account number of DFRC Sambhal within a week.

 

The DM has said in his order that the investigating officer will again conduct a field inspection in the next meeting of the regulatory committee. If textbooks of private publishers other than NCERT are found to be in circulation again or if students are forced to buy books from a particular shop, legal action will be taken again.

The order issued by the DM states that all schools will submit the receipt of the fine to the District School Inspector.
