Drug addiction: NCC plans year-long events
As part of the UT Administration’s initiative against drug menace, NCC Group Chandigarh has planned a series of events during its yearlong campaign.
Brig VS Chauhan, Commander NCC Group Headquarter Chandigarh, said these activities would be organised over the year by NCC Group Chandigarh under the aegis of the Education Department and with the support from other departments of the Administration.
During the last week of May, an all-principal workshop has been planned on anti-drug awareness to empower ambitions and eliminate addictions. An anti-drug pledge and rally is being planned for June 26 on the occasion of International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
In second half of August, health run and fitness challenge will be conducted on a Sunday. In September, NCC Cadets will carry out community outreach and awareness drive on drug abuse. In October, a number of anti-drug workshops have been planned in various NCC affiliated schools and colleges.
The anti-drug initiative by NCC Group will culminate in a fete at Shopping Plaza, Sector 17, on November 29 being NCC Day. Mindfulness and meditation workshops in NCC affiliated institutions will be held in January 2026.
Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria along with Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya had unveiled the calendar of the NCC activities after pledge taking ceremony on termination of the padyatra against drugs May 3. The NCC cadets also accompanied the Governor in his padyatra from the Secretariat to Tiranga Park, Sector 17.
