Three miscreants open fire at Inspector, held after encounter in Bathinda

Hours after CIA Staff-1 Inspector Sukhpreet Singh was shot at by some miscreants at Parasram Nagar here, three suspects were apprehended by the police following a shootout on Sunday night.

The accused have been identified as Amarjit Singh of Kothe Amarpura, Rajiv of Guru Gobind Singh Nagar and Rohit of Parasram Nagar.

SSP Amneet Kondal said a few days ago, two bike-borne persons had snatched Rs 10,000 and a mobile phone from the staff of a liquor store at a gunpoint in the Cantonment area.

She said they received a tip-off that the accused involved in the incident were hiding at a house of Rohit Kumar, alias Pepsi, in Parasram Nagar.

The SSP said Inspector Sukhpreet Singh and his team found two youngsters at Pepsi’s house. As he tried to question them, one of them pulled out a pistol and fired at Inspector Sukhpreet Singh, said Kondal, adding that the three fled the scene on a bike.

Later, a police team led by CIA Staff ASI Gurpreet Singh cornered the suspects near Behman bridge. As they again opened fire at cops, ASI Gurpreet Singh and his men retaliated and injured two of them. Amarjit and Rajiv carried out the robbery at the liquor shop. She said Amarjit had fired at the police on both occasions and was facing three robbery cases.
