35-year-old domestic help found dead, kin suspect sexual assault, murder

A 35-year-old domestic help was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a house of a businessman in Rajouri Garden on Monday. The kin suspect it to be murder and refused to cremate the body and demanded registration of a murder case. They even alleged sexual assault on the victim.

Bibi Charanjit Kaur, an activist who reached the spot to support the family in getting justice, said that deceased Renu, a migrant from UP, had been working as domestic help in the house for the past over 10 years. She said the victim was found dead and the house owner claimed that she had died by suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan.

“The house owner instead of calling the police, claimed that he brought down the body and then informed the deceased’s family. The body has injury marks, which arouse the suspicion that the deceased tried to save herself. We also have the suspicion that the victim was first sexually assaulted and then murdered. To give the impression that the woman committed suicide, the house owner told the police that the victim died by suicide and they brought down the body to save her life, but she could not survive,” alleged Kaur.

She further said that the deceased had four children and her husband was a painter. They would not cremate the body till a murder case was registered against the house owner, she added.

ACP (West) Jatinderpal Sintlgh said that a murder case was being registered as per the allegations of the deceased’s family and further investigation would be conducted afterwards. About rape allegations, action would be taken only after the postmortem examination would confirm sexual assault.
