Kerala's Neytt By Extraweave Brings Indian Elegance To Met Gala's 2025 Grand Entrance
Met Gala 2025: The 2025 Met Gala aimed to turn the iconic steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art into a stunning showcase of fashion, culture, and storytelling — with a striking installation brought in from Kerala, India, serving as the event’s centrepiece.
This year’s theme, 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style', was an impassioned tribute to the refinement, ingenuity, and cultural heritage of Black fashion. That is inspired mainly by Monica L. Miller’s groundbreaking Slaves to Fashion, featuring hundreds of years of Black sartorial expression, starting from the 18th century. The museum’s staircase stood out with bright colours, artistic details, and a focus on eco-friendly design, all set against the event’s striking blue carpet.

A Kerala Brand On Fashion’s Grand Stage:
For the third consecutive year, Neytt by Extraweave, a design house in Cherthala, Alappuzha, played a very significant role for one of the most-watched occasions in fashion. Entrusted with the carpet for the 2025 Met Gala, the brand produced a massive expanse of textile art measuring 63,000 square feet that redefined the entrance — quite literally and symbolically.
This year's carpet featured a bold atmosphere of royal blue, bordered by golden daffodils, opulent floral barricades, and cascading blooms dancing and gleaming under New York's evening lights. Besides all of the aesthetic grandeur, the carpet has also a deeper story about sustainability and cross-cultural collaboration.
Woven from biodegradable sisal fibres from Madagascar, the Met Gala carpet spotlighted eco-conscious design. This eco-friendly material showed how people around the world are starting to care more about the environment, while also putting a spotlight on Indian craftsmanship.
Behind The Glamour:
Since 2022, the repeated collaboration of Neytt by Extraweave with the Met Gala speaks to increasing regard for Indian designs. What began as a quiet contribution from a small Kerala town has evolved into a tradition that merges local craftsmanship with global glamour.
The 2025 event was also one of those historic moments for India on the global fashion stage. With an official presence at the Met Gala, Manish Malhotra made his mark, while stars like Shah Rukh Khan, Kiara Advani, and Diljit Dosanjh walked down the Neytt carpet in ensembles hard to ignore. The senior ones, like Priyanka Chopra, Isha Ambani, and Natasha Poonawalla, walked in with their usual flair.
