This Kerala Startup Is Creating Biodegradable Bottles That Disappear in Just 3 Months!

Are you worried about the growing plastic waste in our country? Well, a startup called ‘Green Bio’ has a solution. The water bottles they manufacture look and feel like plastic, but they are 100 percent biodegradable.

The brainchild of Pradeep Kokkat and Ali Asgar from Kerala, Green Bio has redefined eco-friendly packaging.

These bottles decompose in just 180 days, leaving behind only water, CO2, and biomass.

What is Green Bio’s secret? Instead of using traditional materials like paper or glass, they developed bioplastic granules from Polylactide (PLA) — made from natural resources like corn and sugarcane. These bottles mimic plastic but are kind to the Earth. PLA looks and feels like plastic, but is completely biodegradable

Green Bio uses PLA granulated to make preforms which can be blown into bottles of any size — from 100 millilitre to 1 litre. Even the caps and labels on the bottles are fully biodegradable, unlike the normal PET bottle caps that cannot even be recycled.

These bottles take just three months to fully decompose. The good news is that the startup is already in the manufacturing stage and is registered under the Kerala Government’s Start-up Mission.

Pradeep and Ali hope to take their technology to manufacturers across India and cut down our plastic waste. No plastic waste. No toxic leftovers. Just nature reclaiming itself.
