Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: MSEDCL Installs Over 56,000 TOD Meters To Provide Real-Time Power Usage And Accurate Billing
Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has initiated the work to replace the existing electricity meters of the consumers with the latest Time of Day (TOD) meters. So far, 56,000 meters have been replaced, the official sources said.
In the TOD meters, the consumers can get the real-time information of the consumption of the electricity. As a result, they can maintain control over the electricity usage and, apparently, on the electricity bills. Similarly, they can get the correct electricity bill based on the actual use of the electricity and on time. These meters are postpaid meters, and bills will come according to the actual reading in the meters. Hence, the consumers will not have the additional financial burden. Some people are spreading rumours about the new TOD meters, but they are user-friendly, the MSEDCL sources said.
Presently, the TOD meters are given to the electricity and solar energy consumers. The old meters are replaced with the new TOD meters. It has a communication port, which is connected to the server at the MSEDCL office, which provides the real-time data. The company official can immediately get the information about the faulty meters. The reading is automatically generated, and the manual work is reduced. The consumers can obtain the real-time reading of each consumed unit on their mobile phones. No additional fees are charged to the consumers for replacing the existing meters with the TOD meters. Similarly, the power pilferage can be brought under control.
MSEDCL has replaced all the meters of the industrial consumers with TOD meters, and they are given special concessions on the electricity use during specific periods. A similar proposal to give concession to the domestic consumers is also under consideration, the officers said.
So far, 56,940 TOD meters have been installed in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar circle, of which the new connections are 21,944 and the existing connections are 27,836. Similarly, TOD meters have been given to 7,160 consumers who have installed solar energy systems on their roofs through the PM Suryaghar Scheme.
Chief Engineer Pawankumar Kachot said the real-time information of the exact use of electricity is obtained through the TOD meters, and the consumers get the bill as per actual use. The consumers should not believe the rumours being spread about TOD meters, he said.
