Jyoti Ratre: Bhopal Entrepreneur-Turned-Mountaineer Closes In On Seven Summits Goal
New Delhi [India], May 6: Jyoti Ratre, an entrepreneur from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, has gained recognition for her transition from business to mountaineering. At 55, Ratre has become one of the few Indian women in her age group to scale some of the world’s tallest peaks, including Mount Everest.
Her journey began in the corporate and entrepreneurial sector, where she managed business ventures before choosing to pursue her personal passion—adventure sports and mountaineering. She has described her career shift as a conscious decision to break age and gender stereotypes while encouraging other women to follow unconventional paths.
Prior to Mount Everest, Ratre climbed several major peaks across five continents, including Island Peak (Asia), Mount Elbrus (Europe), Kilimanjaro (Africa), Mount Aconcagua (South America), and Mount Kosciuszko (Australia). She has attempted Mount Vinson (Antarctica) but had to return from high camp due to harsh weather conditions. She now plans to climb Denali in North America.
Her accomplishments in adventure sports have been acknowledged on various platforms. In 2021, she received the Indian Inspirational Women Award (IIWA) recognizing her work in mountaineering.
Currently engaged in motivational speaking and community outreach, she continues to inspire others through talks, especially among women and students. Her story illustrates a career shift later in life, reflecting a broader trend of individuals embracing second careers that prioritize purpose and passion over convention.
Reflecting on her journey, Ratre said in an interview, “I want to inspire the youth, especially women, with the message that there is no age to dream. You can dream and achieve anything at any age. If I could climb Mount Everest at the age of 49, anyone, at any age, can pursue their dreams and achieve them. All it takes to fulfill a dream is dedication, willpower, hard work, and self-confidence. Dreams come true for those who give life to their dreams; those who try never fail.”
