Veterinary university holds training in dairy farming technologies
The Department of Animal Nutrition at Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana, organised a five-day hands-on training programme on “Nutritional Technologies for Dairy Farmers” under the guidance of the Directorate of Extension Education. During the valedictory function, RS Grewal, Director of Extension Education, emphasised that feed constitutes over 65 per cent of the total cost in dairy farming. He revealed that the adoption of modern nutritional technologies could significantly reduce feeding costs, making dairy farming a profitable and sustainable enterprise. “These innovations not only enhance productivity but also open avenues for rural youth employment and support agricultural diversification,” he added.
Head of Department of Animal Nutrition and course director JS Hundal said the training featured lectures and practical demonstrations by experts. The primary aim was to promote year-round balanced feeding using locally available feed resources. The programme highlighted the use of mineral mixtures, urea molasses mineral blocks and bypass nutrients. Participants were also trained in silage and hay-making.
