Cong ruled nation for 60 years but ignored SCs, poor: Anurag

The Congress that had ruled the country for over six decades remained indifferent towards the Scheduled Castes and the poor, alleged Anurag Thakur, Hamirpur MP and former Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, while addressing a public meeting at Barara village near here today.

He said that the Congress had even failed to acknowledge and honour the contributions of Dr BR Ambedkar. He added that Ambedkar had given India the Constitution for the progress and development of the country but the Congress contrived to kill its spirit.

Anurag alleged that first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru had made multiple amendments to the Constitution as he could not accept the provisions that were made for the growth of the poor and needy countrymen. He added that Indira Gandhi had violated the spirit of the Constitution by imposing Emergency in 1975. He claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was working to realise the dreams of Baba Saheb Ambedkar that were shattered during the Congress rule.

He said that it was the BJP-led government that developed places connected to Ambedkar as places of national importance, including ‘Janmsthali’, ‘Shiksha sthali’ and ‘Deeksha sthali’. He added that the Bharat Rattan award was also conferred on Ambedkar when the Congress was not in power.

Later, Anurag addressed a meeting of DISHA at the Deputy Commissioner’s office here. He directed officers of various departments to execute welfare schemes initiated by the Central Government effectively.
