In yet another edge-of-the-seat encounter at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday night, Gujarat Titans pulled off a heart-stopping win over Mumbai Indians in a rain-hit IPL 2025 clash. The game, which witnessed two rain interruptions, saw a dramatic finish as Gujarat chased down a revised target of 147 in 19 overs, winning off the final delivery.

The match turned into a rollercoaster after the second rain delay, with Gujarat struggling at 132/6 — trailing the DLS par score at that stage. With 15 runs required off the final over and Rahul Tewatia and Gerald Coetzee at the crease, Mumbai skipper Hardik Pandya handed the ball to Deepak Chahar in a high-pressure situation. However, Chahar failed to deliver under pressure.

Tewatia opened the over with a boundary and took a single next ball, handing strike to Coetzee. The South African cleared the ropes on the third delivery, intensifying the tension. He was dismissed on the fifth ball, with just one run left to win. To add to Mumbai’s woes, Chahar also bowled a costly no-ball during the over.

With one required off the last ball, Arshad Khan faced the final delivery. He nudged the ball towards mid-off and set off for a risky single. Hardik Pandya, fielding close in, collected the ball cleanly but opted for a direct hit instead of relaying the throw to Suryakumar Yadav, who was stationed near the stumps. The direct hit missed, and with the batter well short of his ground, Mumbai Indians let the match slip away.

The decision not to pass the ball to Suryakumar drew sharp criticism from fans and pundits alike, with many questioning Pandya's judgement in the crucial moment. Chahar too faced heat for not backing up near the stumps, allowing the single to be completed unchallenged.
