Indian Citizenship: Aadhaar-PAN will not determine Indian citizenship, now only these documents will be valid
Delhi Police said that documents like Aadhaar Card, PAN Card or Ration Card will not be accepted as proof of being an Indian citizen.
Indian Citizenship: Delhi Police has now made it clear that if there is a suspicion that a person has come from another country and is living illegally in India, then it will not accept documents like Aadhaar Card, PAN Card or Ration Card as proof of being an Indian citizen. In fact, many illegal immigrants, especially from Bangladesh and the Rohingya community, have got Aadhaar, PAN and ration cards made. Through these, they claim to be Indian citizens. Some people also have UNHCR refugee cards, but officials say that refugee status is not legally recognized in India without proper travel documents.
The new citizenship policy has been implemented from April and has made identification norms stricter in Delhi. Authorities have increased surveillance and verification in the districts of the national capital. During this, Deputy Commissioners of Police have been assigned the task of identifying suspicious persons who are living illegally.
Which documents will be considered valid
Authorities have made it clear that only Voter ID Card or Passport will be accepted as citizenship proof during verification. If the document is rejected or challenged, the person can appeal in the court.
If UNHCR considers someone a refugee, he can seek help under international law, but unless the Indian government considers him a refugee, he will not be saved from deportation from India.
Importance of the new citizenship rule
This campaign is being run amid growing concerns about security. In fact, a few days ago, there was a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir, in which 28 tourists were killed. In response to this, the Home Ministry canceled the visas of most Pakistani citizens present in India. Under this, only citizens with medical, diplomatic and long term visas were exempted. However, medical visas will also be considered invalid after April 29.
According to the information, out of about 3,500 Pakistani citizens living in Delhi, about 520 are Muslims, out of which more than 400 people have returned to Pakistan through the Attari border so far. Delhi Police and intelligence agencies have received orders to identify Pakistani citizens living in Delhi and ask them to leave the country immediately.
