SBS Nagar dist: Possible terror attack averted with seizure of arms, explosives

In a major breakthrough against cross-border terrorism, the State Special Operation Cell (SSOC) Amritsar, in coordination with a Central intelligence agency, has seized a large cache of arms and explosives from a forested area near the Tibba Nangal–Kular road in SBS Nagar district.

The seizure, made during an intelligence-led operation, included two rocket-propelled grenades, two improvised explosive devices, five P-86 hand grenades and a wireless communication set. Officials believed the cache was part of a larger terror plot intended to destabilise peace in Punjab.

Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav termed the seizure a major success in the ongoing offensive against Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) terror networks. He stated that preliminary investigations indicated a coordinated attempt by the ISI and its affiliated terror outfits to revive dormant sleeper cells within Punjab.

“This operation reflects the commitment of the Punjab Police to neutralise any threat to peace and public safety. We are actively pursuing leads to trace the operatives behind this consignment and their local collaborators,” said DGP Yadav.

A case was registered under Sections 25 of the Arms Act, Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act and Sections 111 and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at the SSOC, Amritsar,
