What is the meaning of Lashkar e Taiba and Jaish e Mohammad, the terror groups targeted by India in Operation Sindoor?
Under ‘Operation Sindoor’, the IAF on the wee hours carried out night raids on the nine hideouts located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir. Terror headquarters of banned Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen were targeted. Among the targets hit in a precise operation were Markaz Subhan Allah at Bahawalpur, Sarjal at Tehra Kalan, Markaz Abbas in Kotli and Syedna Bilal camp in Muzaffarabad (all of the banned Jaish-e-Mohammed terror group).

But do you know what Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) mean?
LeT: Lashkar-e-Taiba is also known as Army of the Righteous. The organisation’s primary stated objective is to merge the whole of Kashmir with Pakistan. It was founded in 1985–1986 by Hafiz Saeed, Zafar Iqbal Shehbaz, Abdullah Azzam and several other Islamist mujahideen with funding from Osama bin Laden during the Soviet–Afghan War. It has been designated a terrorist group by the United Nations and numerous countries. Deadly terror attacks like December 2000 on Red Fort, 2001 Indian Parliament attack, 2005 Delhi bombings and the deadly 26/11 2008 Mumbai attacks were claimed by this outfit. The Resistance Front (TRF), a little-known armed group of the JeM, claimed responsibility for the attack in which at least 26 tourists were killed in Pahalgam on April 22.
JeM: Jaish-e-Mohammad is called the army of prophet. It is a Pakistan-based Deobandi Islamist militant group active in Kashmir. The group’s primary motive is to separate Kashmir from India and merge it into Pakistan. Since its inception in 2000, the group has carried out several attacks, primarily in the Indian administered Jammu and Kashmir. It is headed by Masood Azhar. The outfit has claimed the attacks on 2001 Indian Parliament attack, 2016 Uri attack, 2019 Pulwama attack.
