Fact Check: Gaza-Beirut Footage Shared As 'India's Attack On Pakistan', Videos Go Viral

The Verdict [False]

The videos show Israeli bombings of a Gaza hospital in 2023 and a Beirut building in 2024, unrelated to India-Pakistan tensions after Pahalgam attack.

What is the claim?

Several videos have gone viral on social media, claiming to show an attack by India on Pakistan following the recent terrorist attack in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam, a town in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, India.

The first video shows people running while explosions can be seen in the background. Social media users sharing the clip claimed, “Al Jazeera Channel has released new footage of the Indian Army’s attack on Sialkot, Pakistan.”  Archived versions of such posts can be accessed hereherehere, and here.

The second video shows a strike on a building that collapses, sending people fleeing for cover. Text in Hindi embedded in the video reads, “Power off Indian Army” and “The scene in Pakistan after the attack on Jammu and Kashmir.” Archived links to these posts are available hereherehere, and here

On April 22, 2025, a terrorist attack took place in the Baisaran Valley of Pahalgam, where gunmen opened fire in a popular tourist area, killing 26 people. While Pakistan has denied involvement, sources quoted in news reports stated that the terrorists received training from Pakistan’s Special Service Group. One of the main perpetrators, Hashim Musa—a former para-commando who later joined Lashkar-e-Taiba—has been linked to several attacks.

Indian authorities are continuing search operations and investigations to locate the attackers. In response to the attack, India revoked the long-standing Indus Waters Treaty and ordered all Pakistani nationals to leave the country. Cross-border gunfire between India and Pakistan has occurred almost nightly since the attack.

However, we found that the viral videos are old and unrelated to the Pahalgam attack or its aftermath.

What are the facts?

The videos are not recent and do not depict any Indian attack on Pakistan. One is from 2023, showing a hospital in Gaza being bombed, while the other is from 2024, showing a building strike in southern Beirut.

Video of explosions in the background

A reverse image search led to an extended version of the first video published by Al Jazeera on YouTube (archived here) on November 9, 2023. The video is titled “Injuries reported in Gaza’s Indonesian hospital.” At the 10:15 mark, the visuals match those in the viral clip.

Quds News Network also posted the same video on X on November 9, 2023 (archived here), with the caption: “Scenes documenting the violent bombing by the Israeli occupation that targeted the vicinity of the Indonesian Hospital in the northern #Gaza Strip. Several deaths and injuries have been reported, most of whom are children.”

The Palestinian Interior Ministry reported that Israeli fighter jets struck the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza, where thousands of displaced people—including the wounded—were sheltering.

Video of strike on building

The second viral video was traced to a longer version published by Turkish agency IHA News on November 22, 2024. The video, titled “Israeli Forces Strike Multiple Places in Lebanon, Including Beirut,” shows identical footage from the beginning of the clip.

The Guardian and Reuters also shared the video in November 2024, reporting that it showed an Israeli strike on the Chiyah neighborhood in southern Beirut. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, several health workers were killed or injured in the attack. The strike followed reports of clashes between Israeli forces and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.

These findings confirm that the viral videos do not involve India or Pakistan. There are no credible reports of an Indian military attack on Pakistan following the Pahalgam incident.

The verdict

The viral videos depict attacks in Gaza and Beirut from 2023 and 2024, respectively. They are unrelated to the April 2025 terrorist attack in Pahalgam or to any subsequent military action by India on Pakistan.
