Not Amitabh Bachchan, Dharmendra or Rajesh Khanna, the Underworld don was crazy about THIS actor, who beat Vinod Khanna in 1989, his name was…

Veteran actor Rishi Kapoor, who portrayed wide range of roles, captivated audiences with his charm and personality. With a career spanning over 50 years, he became a huge name, not just in India but worldwide as well. In 1989, he appeared alongside one of India’s biggest stars, Vinod Khanna, in the film Chandni, where he held his own and gave Khanna stiff competition.

Did you know Rishi Kapoor was favourite of world’s most wanted criminal, Dawood Ibrahim, too? He even gave the actor his phone number and invited him for tea.

Dawood was highly impressed with Rishi Kapoor’s performance in the 2013 film D-Day, which was picturised on him. After watching his performance, he then invited him over for a warm get-together. In his autobiography, Khullam Khulla, the late actor revealed about his two meetups with Dawood Ibrahim. The first happened in 1988, when he was in Dubai for “Asha Bhosle-RD Burman night” and was spotted by Dawood’s man at the airport. The guy than offered him his phone, saying, “Dawood saab baat karenge (Dawood saab would like to speak to you).” He then invited Rishi Kapoor to his house.

He offered him tea and biscuits because he didn’t drink or serve alcohol. Dawood also discussed with him about the murder that he planned in the Mumbai court, an incident which later was shown in Sunny Deol’s Arjun. Rishi Kapoor revealed in his autobiography that before leaving his house, Dawood told him, “If you need anything at all, any money, anything, just feel free to ask me.” However, the actor refused.

The second time Rishi met Dawood was in Dubai at a store. He was then with his wife Neetu Kapoor, and the underworld don insisted on buy something for the superstar, but he declined the offer. Dawood also gave him his phone number to Rishi, but the actor couldn’t give him his number back as there were no mobile phones in India at the time.

Rishi mentioned in his autobiography that, “He (Dawood) was always extremely nice to me and showed me a lot of warmth, Everything changed soon after. I don’t know what made him go after my country the way he did. I have had no interaction with him at all after that chance meeting at the shoe shop.”
