Every Road Accident Victim In India Will Get Free Treatment Now. Check Details

Cashless Accident Treatment Scheme 2025: The government has taken a huge step by launching the Cashless Treatment Scheme 2025 across the country from May 5, 2025. The objective of the scheme is to provide immediate and quality treatment to people injured in road accidents, so that their lives can be saved.

Under this scheme, if a person is a victim of a road accident, s/he will get treatment up to Rs 1.5 lakh completely free of cost. The treatment will be provided for the first seven days at a selected government or private hospital without any payment. No insurance or paperwork will be required.

Who Will Be Eligible For The Scheme?

This scheme applies to every person who is a victim of a road accident in any state. The injured person will get treatment irrespective of her/his nationality, if s/he has been a victim of a road accident in India.

Where And How Will The Treatment Be Available?

Treatment will be completely cashless only in those hospitals that are designated by the government. The government will release a list of such hospitals, and these will be updated regularly. If the injured person is first taken to a unlisted hospital, only primary treatment (stabilisation) will be provided. After that, they will be shifted to the nearest listed hospital, where free treatment of up to ₹1.5 lakh will be provided for 7 days.

This scheme is being run by the National Health Authority (NHA), and implemented by the State Road Safety Council and state health agencies. An 11-member high-level committee has been formed to monitor the system. This committee will ensure that the scheme runs smoothly and that no one is deprived of treatment.

Why This Scheme?

The number of road accidents annually in India is alarming. Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari recently informed that in 2023, there were about 4.8 lakh road accidents in India, out of which 1.72 lakh people died.

A large number of these deaths occurred because the injured did not receive timely treatment. Through this scheme, the government wants to ensure that no injured person is denied treatment.
