Mumbai: 47-Year-Old Businessman Allegedly Killed By Girlfriend In Malad Hotel; Accused Woman Arrested In Surat

Mumbai: In a chilling case of betrayal and murder rooted in a personal affair, a 47-year-old businessman from Mumbai was allegedly killed by his girlfriend, who is also a relative. The victim, Imamuddin Ghesasi Mansuri, an interior decorator by profession, was found dead in a hotel room in Malad on Sunday, May 4. The accused, identified as Barkat Rathod, was arrested days later in Surat, Gujarat, after trying to mislead the police by making the murder appear as a suicide.

Extra-marital Affair Led To Killing

According to a Lokmat Times report, the deceased Imamuddin and Barkat, who hails from Jaipur and is the wife of his brother-in-law, had been in an illicit relationship. Their affair had caused considerable friction within the family, with Barkat’s husband cutting ties with her due to social backlash. Cops believe this emotional turmoil may have contributed to the motive behind the murder.

On the day of the incident, the two checked in at the Shalimar Hotel near Malad railway station. Between 1:30 pm and 3 pm, an argument allegedly broke out between the two, during which Barkat is said to have strangled Imamuddin. Following the crime, she reportedly sent a message from his phone to the family’s WhatsApp group, claiming he was ending his life due to mental stress. The message was meant to divert suspicion and delay police intervention.

Alarmed by the message, Imamuddin’s 23-year-old son, Ahmad Raza, who lives in Mira Road, informed police and asked for help in locating his father. Cops quickly tracked the victim’s location to the hotel in Malad, where they found him unconscious. He was rushed to a government hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Postmortem Brings Out Clues Linked To Murder

Initially, police filed an Accidental Death Report (ADR), suspecting suicide. However, a postmortem examination revealed otherwise. Injury marks and scratches on Imamuddin’s neck pointed to manual strangulation. The findings led police to register a murder case and launch a manhunt for Barkat.

Using mobile tracking, police discovered she had fled to Surat. A team from Dindoshi police station pursued and apprehended her. During interrogation, Barkat reportedly confessed to the crime, admitting that she killed Imamuddin following a heated argument. She was brought back to Mumbai and is in police custody as investigations continue.
