Capt Amarinder Singh warns Pakistan against escalation
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader and former Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, on Wednesday warned Pakistan against any escalation following India’s strikes on terror camps across the border. The strikes came in response to the attack on tourists in Pahalgm on April 22.
Talking to The Tribune, the former CM complimented the defence forces for their precision strikes on terror camps inside Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir.
“The action was long overdue. Pakistan had not been desisting from exporting terror into our country, particularly, when 26 innocent tourists were killed by Pakistan-trained terrorists,” he said.
Capt Amarinder added that the Indian forces were careful in executing their strikes with no civilian or military casualties.
“Our targets were terrorist training camps, and we hit them hard. That is all”, he said.
Capt Amarinder pointed out there was no targeting of civilian or military installations. He warned Pakistan against trying to escalate the conflict, lest it will lead to its own doom.
The former CM condemned the Pakistan army’s attack on civilian areas in the border town of Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in multiple casualties.
Capt Amarinder also clarified that India had no intention of escalating the conflict.
“The country has made it clear that those behind the Pahalgam terror attack will not go unpunished. The terrorist responsible have been punished as has been admitted by the Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorist, even though he managed to escaped, lost several family members,” he said.
Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa also issued a strong statement, “I condemn Pakistan’s vile aggression along the Line of Control and the cowardly Pahalgam attack. Punjab, India’s defiant frontier, stands as our nation’s iron heart. From the crucible of 1947-48 to the victories of 1965, 1971, and Kargil, Punjabis have bled for India’s honour, their valour unmatched. They fortify our forces with unyielding courage. Pakistan should end its treachery. Bound by Punjab’s fearless spirit, our brave soldiers will fight, triumph, and defend our sacred land to the last!”
