Operation Sindoor: Punjab politicians unite in support of Armed Forces
Political leaders from all major parties in Punjab have praised the Indian Armed Forces for the successful execution of ‘Operation Sindoor’, a military strike on terrorist camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
The state’s key political figures have taken to social media to express their admiration and support for the armed forces.
Senior AAP leader and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann stated, “The whole country is united in this fight against terrorism. We are proud of our Indian Army and our brave soldiers. 140 crore citizens are standing with the Indian Army. The people of Punjab stand with the country’s Army for the courage of the soldiers. Jai Hind, Jai Bharat.”
Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief Amarinder Singh Raja Warring kept his message brief but strong, “Our army is our pride, that is our glory. Jai Hind!”
Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal echoed the sentiment, stating, “Shiromani Akali Dal salutes our brave Armed Forces for executing ‘Operation Sindoor’ with precision and restraint. We stand with the Government of India for its decisive action against terrorism. Jai Hind!”
BJP state president Sunil Kumar Jakhar not only commended the armed forces but also called for restraint within the state.
“Salute to the Indian Army! Jai Hind! India’s defence forces have once again struck hard against extremism, celebrating their bravery. Special thanks to Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji, who gave our forces an opportunity to select targets in a professional manner,” he stated.
Jakhar also appealed for a temporary suspension of ongoing farmer protests in light of national security.
Meanwhile, senior Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in the Vidhan Sabha Partap Singh Bajwa chose to quote verses from Gurbani, highlighting the spiritual and patriotic spirit of service among Indian soldiers.
“Our soldiers serve the nation with this spirit, and we are proud of them. Jai Hind,” he stated.
Independent MP from Faridkot Sarabjeet Singh Khalsa, now associated with Akali Dal (Waris Punjab De) struck a note of caution regarding the impact on Punjab. “India is also ours, we are with India, but the policies of these governments are not right. Punjab should not be made a battlefield every time,” he warned.
SAD (Amritsar) president and former MP Simranjit Singh Mann urged caution and dialogue over escalation.
“There should not be a war with Pakistan, as we are a neighbouring state. Any conflict would have a direct negative effect on the Sikh population in Punjab… We do not support war or attacks on Pakistan or China without the participation of the Sikhs…” he said.
Mann also raised concerns about the displacement of Sikh farmers from border villages and the lack of government provisions for their safety and welfare.
Despite a few critical voices, the overall sentiment from Punjab’s political leaders sends a strong message of national solidarity.
