Police crackdown on traffic violators, over 30 challaned

In an effort to curb eve-teasing and enhance road safety, the Commissionerate Police, Jalandhar, held a special five-day drive between May 2 and May 6 near HMV College and Seth Hukam Chand Senior Secondary School.

The drive, conducted under the supervision of ACP-Central Amandeep Singh, targeted offenders between 12 noon and 3 pm on all days.

The drive involved coordinated nakabandi and vehicle checks led by SHO Division No. 2, supported by the Emergency Response System (ERS) and the field media team (FMT). The primary aim was to ensure a secure atmosphere for women and schoolchildren by tackling harassment and traffic violations.

During the drive, 310 vehicles were checked, resulting in 33 challans being issued for various violations. Seven motorcycles were impounded as part of the enforcement action.

Among the key violations were four motorcycles modified with illegal Bullet silencers, six instances of triple riding, eight cases of riding without helmets, five vehicles lacking number plates and three cases of underage driving.

Officials said the initiative was part of the police’s ongoing commitment to promoting road safety and protecting the public, especially women and the youth. The Commissionerate Police affirmed that such checks would continue in sensitive areas to maintain discipline and prevent harassment-related incidents.

The authorities have urged citizens to follow traffic rules and report any untoward behaviour to ensure a safe and respectful environment for all.
