The inspiring journey of Hoshiarpur’s Burger Chachu

Sharanjit Singh, affectionately known as “Burger Chachu,” is a renowned food vendor from Hoshiarpur who began his culinary journey with a simple burger cart called ‘Six 10 Burger,’ operating just four hours a day from 6 pm to 10 pm. Born in Hoshiarpur and raised in Panipat, Sharanjit earned his Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Management from Agra.

His career started with the ITC group, followed by a position at Taj Hotel Agra, and a brief stint at Golkonda Resort in Hyderabad. However, family circumstances forced him to return to Hoshiarpur, leading him to work for a local steel firm for about five years.

During this time, the firm’s owner recognised Sharanjit’s culinary talent and encouraged him to pursue his passion, even providing financial support to help him start his dream food business. In July 2016, Sharanjit launched his burger cart, ‘Six 10 Burger.’ He didn’t just sell ordinary burgers; he revolutionised them by creating oil-free versions that blended Indian spices with Western styles. His creative and flavourful burgers quickly gained popularity for being big, bold, and overloaded. As his reputation grew, he became known as ‘Burger Chachu,’ especially among children who loved his special kids’ menu.

In February 2017, he expanded his venture by opening a Restaurant-cum-Cafe at City Centre in Hoshiarpur, continuing to innovate with some of the largest burgers and sandwiches in the country. His first oversized burger, a 7 kg sandwich, debuted on the first anniversary of his cafe on July 17, 2017. He continued to push the boundaries of burger sizes, crafting an 11 kg burger on December 25, 2018, a 7 kg sandwich on July 17, 2019, a 20 kg burger for cricket star Harbhajan Singh in Mohali on July 17, 2021, an 11 kg sandwich on December 25, 2021, and a 45 kg burger, which is considered India’s biggest burger, on December 11, 2022. Most recently, he made headlines with a 112 kg gold leaf burger on November 4, 2023, earning a spot in the India Book of Records.

Today, “Burger Chachu” is a well-established brand with thousands of followers on social media. Sharanjit’s success story continues as he hints at breaking more records, with plans for something even more extraordinary in the works. While details remain a mystery, it could involve an even larger meal or an innovative fusion of different foods that challenge traditional culinary boundaries.

Sharanjit represents a new wave of food entrepreneurs who blend street food with modern trends while maintaining authenticity. His journey from a young man with a food cart to a prominent figure in the food industry exemplifies the power of hard work, creativity, and ambition. As he prepares for his next big leap, fans eagerly await what he has in store.
