JAMMU, May 7: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Jammu, has achieved a significant milestone in surgical excellence by successfully performing over 10 complex parotid neoplasm surgeries, solidifying its status as a regional leader in advanced ENT care.
These surgeries, conducted by the Department of Otorhinolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery are among the most technically challenging procedures due to the intricate anatomy of the parotid gland, which lies near the facial nerve.
Preserving facial nerve function while ensuring complete tumor removal requires extraordinary precision and skill.
The ENT team, led by Dr Darwin Kaushal, Head of the Department and Additional Professor, along with Dr Amardeep Singh, Associate Professor, has utilized cutting-edge surgical techniques including intraoperative facial nerve monitoring, microscopic dissection and facelift-type incisions.
These methods have ensured optimal functional and cosmetic outcomes, with patients experiencing minimal scarring and faster recovery times.
Prof (Dr) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Jammu, lauded the department’s achievements.
In his address he said, “It is a matter of immense pride that our ENT Department is handling such intricate surgeries with excellence. This reflects not only their surgical skill but also the evolving strength of AIIMS Jammu in delivering advanced, high-standard medical care to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.”
With these accomplishments, AIIMS Jammu is quickly emerging as a center of excellence for ENT surgeries in the region.
The institute’s ENT department plans to further expand its services by introducing endoscopic approaches for select parotid tumors, enhancing capabilities in head and neck oncology and setting up a dedicated Facial Nerve Monitoring and Rehabilitation Unit.
