Katra-bound bus gets hoax bomb threat

A privately operated bus, travelling from Delhi to Katra, was stopped near Samrala after the bus conductor received a call claiming there was a bomb on board, prompting the driver to swiftly pull over in a field near the Hedon police post in Samrala. All passengers were evacuated and taken to the Hedon post for safety.

Upon hearing about the threat, SSP Dr Jyoti Yadav Bains and a police force rushed to the scene. The bomb squad was also called in to thoroughly inspect the bus and determine if there were any explosives on board. People were cautioned to avoid venturing into the area near the bus.

The bus conductor, Beant Singh, stated that he received the threatening call around 3 pm. Panicked, he contacted his Delhi office, which advised him to take the bus to the nearest police station.

Confirming to The Tribune, SSP Bains said the bus driver had received a call from some unknown number and the caller told the conductor that a bomb was placed in the bus and it may explode anytime.

“After getting information, we reached the spot. Passengers were taken to safety and the bomb squad was called. Nothing was found on board. The belongings of all the passengers were scanned for precautionary purposes, but nothing was found. Later the bus was allowed to move toward its destination,” said Bains. She confirmed it was a hoax call and that the details of the number were being procured.
