Congress urges govt to call special Parliament session, slams PM’s absence from all-party meet

The Congress urged the government to call a special Parliament session following ‘Operation Sindoor’, expressing disappointment over Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence from the all-party meeting. The meeting was convened amid escalating tensions with Pakistan after the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack. ‘Operation Sindoor’ involved precision missile strikes on nine terrorist infrastructure sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said, “We wanted the Prime Minister to personally explain the actions taken against terrorism and showcase the courage of our soldiers. We salute our soldiers and congratulate them. The Prime Minister’s absence is deeply disappointing, especially since he missed the last all-party meeting as well.”

Kharge added that Rahul Gandhi demanded a Parliament session to send a strong message globally and boost national confidence. The Congress chief reiterated the Opposition’s support, stating, “INDIA unanimously assured the government of our backing. We stand united with the Indian Army.”

During the all-party meeting, the Opposition prioritised national interest and refrained from questioning defence secrets. The Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha emphasised the need for citizen safety on the border and urged the government to prioritise the welfare of families affected by the Kashmir terror attack.
