Punjab News: Gurdaspur Becomes First District To Enforce Complete Blackout From 9 PM To 5 AM Amid India-Pakistan Tensions
Chandigarh: Gurdaspur, the Punjab’s strategic border district with Pakistan was put under complete night-time blackout from Thursday night till further notice, in the wake of escalating tensions between India and Pakistan post ``Op Sindoor’’ executed by Indian Armed forces on Wednesday.
Gurdaspur thus becomes first in the state to be put under a significant civilian precautionary measure after ``Op Sindoor'' which was launched against Pakistani terror targets on May 7. The district deputy commissioner on Thursday issued a notice ordering a complete blackout from 9 pm to 5 am daily till further order.

According to the notice, hospitals and the Central jail have been exempted from the blackout but with strict instructions to ensure windows and doors are closed to prevent light leakage. The notice asked all the residents and commercial establishments to strictly comply with the blackout order and ensure no external lighting is visible during the said hours.
For record, Gurdaspur, which is located between the Beas and Ravi rivers, is where Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir meet and also has in its proximity two major dams – Ranjit Sagar dam and Pong dam.
