MLA Reddy disqualified after conviction in mining case

Gali Janardhan Reddy, a tainted mining baron and BJP MLA, has been disqualified from the Karnataka Legislative Assembly due to his conviction in the Obulapuram mining case. The disqualification, effective from May 6, 2025, will last for six years unless a court stays the conviction. Consequently, the Gangavathi seat, which Reddy won in 2023, has been declared vacant.
