Briefly: Delhi airport sees 90 flight cancellations
As many as 90 flights to and from the Delhi airport, including five international departures, were cancelled by various airlines on Thursday, according to a source. Around 27 airports in various parts of the country are closed in the wake of Operation Sindoor. As a result of the closure of the airports, many flights have been cancelled. A total of 46 domestic departures and 33 arrivals were cancelled. Also, five international departures and six arrivals were cancelled at the Delhi airport, the source said. PTI
Pak Punjab shuts educational institutions
Lahore: Pakistan’s Punjab province government on Thursday announced the closure of all educational institutions across the province till Sunday, amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. “All educational institutions — public and private — will remain closed till May 11,” a Punjab government notification said. The Maryam Nawaz government has also declared an emergency in all hospitals of the province, allocating 50 per cent of the total beds to meet any emergency in the wake of tensions between India and Pakistan. The authorities have been directed to ensure availability of sufficient blood bags, along with an updated list of donors, adequate supplies of medicines, IV fluids, vaccines, surgical/disposables/medical devices and gases. Parl panels congratulate armed forces
New Delhi: Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Thursday adopted a unanimous resolution congratulating the armed forces for pounding terror targets in Pakistan and PoK under Operation Sindoor. PAC chairperson KC Venugopal said the resolution supporting and congratulating the armed forces for the operation was adopted in the first meeting of the newly-constituted panel for 2025-26. Separately, the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Petroleum and Natural Gas also adopted a similar resolution. PTI
China urges India, Pak to exercise restraint
Beijing: China on Thursday urged India and Pakistan to exercise restraint and refrain from taking actions that may “further complicate” the situation, as it asked the two neighbours to act in the “larger interests of peace and stability”. During a media briefing here, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian said Beijing was concerned about the current developments. “We stand ready to work with the rest of the international community to continue playing a constructive role in easing the current tensions,” he added.
