Pakistan's F-16 Fighter Jet Shot Down By Indian Missiles; All About The Aircraft
Islamabad: India on Thursday night shot down one F-16 and two JF-17 fighter jets after Pakistan tried to attack multiple locations in the Indian territory, claimed reports citing sources. The pilot of the F-16 aircraft was captured by the Indian forces. Indian air defence hit these fighter jets and several other Pakistani drones and foiled Islamabad's attempt to attack Indian border towns.
The F-16 took off from Pakistan's Sargodha air base. It was shot down by the Indian Surface-to-air missile (SAM) near the Sargodha air base, reported NDTV, citing sources. The aircraft is the most advanced fighter jets of Pakistan and the mainstay of its air force.
All About F-16 Aircraft:
- F-16 is an American single-engine supersonic multirole fighter aircraft, highly maneuverable, supersonic, multirole tactical fighter aircraft.
- Lockheed Martin manufactured F-16 jets.
- It is much smaller and lighter than its predecessors and uses advanced aerodynamics and avionics.
- The F-16 is the first production fighter aircraft intentionally designed to be slightly aerodynamically unstable.
- It can reach a maximum speed of Mach 2.
The aircraft was handed over to Pakistan in the late 1980s. These aircraft were used by Pakistan against India after New Delhi conducted airstrikes in Balakot in 2019. In the dog fight, India's Wing Commander (now Group Captain) Abhinandan Varthaman shot down one of the F-16s on February 27, 2019.
Tensions between India and Pakistan soared after terrorists killed 26 people, mostly, civilians, in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam on April 22.
In a powerful retaliation to the Pahalgam massacre, Indian armed forces early Wednesday carried out Operation Sindoor targeting terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Among the terror camps targeted by the Indian Armed Forces is Jaish-e-Mohammad's (JeM's) headquarter in Pakistan's Bahawalpur.
