Daughter of President of Afghanistan was ready to stop the war for Amitabh Bachchan, appealed her father to…

At this time, there is a situation of war between India and Pakistan. In such a situation, Pakistani actors have been banned in India, and now perhaps in the future they will never be able to work in Hindi cinema. Seeing the situation of war, many people are scared, and events, shootings, and even IPL have been stopped. But perhaps very few people would know that Amitabh Bachchan shot his film during the civil war.

We are talking about the 1992 film ‘Khuda Gawah’, which was shot in Afghanistan. When Amitabh Bachchan had to go to Afghanistan for shooting, there was a civil war going on there. At that time, the daughter of the then-President Najibullah had appealed to her father to somehow stop the war so that Amitabh Bachchan could visit Kabul.

The President’s daughter had told him, “You should talk to the Mujahideen. They should stop fighting for a day. Such a big man from India has come to Afghanistan. If the fighting stops, he will be able to visit Kabul. And people will also see him.”

This was told to a famous Indian journalist by the former ambassador of Afghanistan. The shooting of ‘Khuda Gawah’ was done in Kabul and Mazar-e Sharif. The government there had made strict arrangements for Amitabh Bachchan’s security. When Amitabh Bachchan and his team used to leave the hotel for the unique shooting of the film, five tank convoys of the Afghan army used to go ahead of them and five behind them. Amitabh Bachchan was so famous there that everyone was his fan. Big B himself had said that he never felt any danger there.

One day, opposition leader Burhanuddin Rabbani sent a message to Amitabh that he was his big fan and he or any member of the film unit need not worry. No harm will be caused to anyone. Then one day, Burhanuddin Rabbani himself came to meet Amitabh Bachchan with flowers.

The film’s producer Manoj Desai had told in an interview to BBC that Amitabh Bachchan and the then Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi, were good friends, and it was he who had talked to the Afghan government for Amitabh Bachchan and his film unit. Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in 1991, and the film was released in 1992.

Rashid Kidwai has also mentioned the friendship between Amitabh Bachchan and Rajiv Gandhi in his book ‘Neta Abhineta: Bollywood Star Power in Indian Politics’. It is written in the book, “A launch party of ‘Khuda Gawah’ was held in Delhi. At that party, Amitabh Bachchan started crying. He was remembering Rajiv Gandhi. And he told how Rajiv Gandhi himself had talked to Afghan President Najibullah and ensured security for the team of ‘Khuda Gawah’.”
