Arrested gangsters wanted to disturb peace in city: Cops
The arrest of two gangsters possibly prevented an imminent attack intended to destabilise public peace and safety in the city, claimed the UT police.
The suspects have been identified as Joban Jit Singh, alias Billa, aged 24, from Amritsar, and Sumandeep, alias Simma, aged 25, from Gurdaspur. Both have extensive criminal records and are believed to have been acting on direct orders from gangsters Happy Passia and Manu Agwan, with instructions relayed through WhatsApp and Snapchat. Their communications were reportedly facilitated by Harwinder alias Harry, who had connected them to Malaysia-based handler Maninder Singh, alias Billa. This digital trail indicates a transnational conspiracy involving arms delivery, planned assassinations, and sabotage missions.
In a press conference today, the police said the arrests thwarted a potentially devastating attack. The police had a tip-off about suspicious movement in the Sector 39 area following which a team of Crime Branch under the leadership of SP Intelligence Manjeet Sheoran, SP Crime Jasbir Singh, and DSP Crime Dhiraj Kumar, cordoned off the area. As the suspects arrived on a motorcycle and were signalled to stop, they pulled out pistols and aimed at cops. The police team overpowered and disarmed the duo before they could fire a single shot.
