Chamba police issue advisory to panchayats amid rising tensions

In light of the escalating conflict between India and Pakistan, the Chamba police have issued a precautionary advisory to all gram panchayat pradhans, panchayat representatives, and panchayat secretaries across the district, urging them to maintain heightened vigilance and ensure public preparedness at the village level.

The advisory, issued by the Superintendent of Police, Chamba, emphasises the need for residents to remain alert and avoid unnecessary exposure during night hours. Residents have been directed to turn off household lights after dark, particularly during air raid siren warnings. Street lights and major illumination sources should be either turned off or covered with black cloth to minimise visibility during potential air threats.

In addition, the public is urged not to share information with unknown or suspicious individuals, especially concerning vital institutions, strategic locations, or important infrastructure in the area. The police have also advised that any sighting of unfamiliar or suspicious persons should be immediately reported to the authorities, Chamba SP Abhishek Yadav said in a press statement.

Further, households are instructed to prepare basic medical kits containing essential items such as medicines, bandages, torches, cash, and bottled water. Families are encouraged to keep emergency supplies ready in case of any urgent need.

We are committed to public safety. In case of any emergency assistance or intelligence sharing. Citizens can also contact their nearest police station or control room on helpline number +91 94188 67360, said the SP.
