Residents urged to keep an eye on suspicious elements
As the border belt has been witnessing a war-like situation following escalating tensions between India and Pakistan, the city police have appealed to the public to stay alert and keep an eye on suspicious elements. “Inform the police at helpline numbers 112 and 97811-30666 in case you found any suspicious activities in your areas,” said the police.
As Pakistan has escalated attacks on military establishments, the Punjab Police said they have been on high alert and urged the people to cooperate with the police and the district administration in these testing times by not spreading rumours. They said there was no need to panic. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar on Friday met traders in Shakti Nagar area. He said apart from holding special nakas, night domination operations and special checking, quick response teams were also deputed in the city.
He urged the people not to spread rumours and create panic. He said strict action would be taken against those spreading rumours. He urged the people to comply with the instructions regarding the blackouts issued by the district administration. He also warned against hoarding of goods.
Meanwhile, police teams along with special operation group carried out checking of hotels in the walled city to apprehend suspicious elements. The police also instructed hotel managements to maintain a proper record of visitors coming to their establishments.
