Barmer News: High Alert in Rajasthan’s Barmer amid India-Pak tensions; advisory issued, markets closed
As India and Pakistan remained locked in escalating hostilities for the fourth straight day, a high alert was declared in Rajasthan’s Barmer at around 10 a.m. on Saturday. Authorities ordered the immediate closure of all markets and urged the people to return home and stay off the roads. Announcing the high-alert order, District Collector and Civil Defence Controller Tina Dabi was quoted as saying by Hindustan Times, “All residents are ordered to immediately return to their homes. Markets must be closed, and all public movement is to cease with immediate effect. Authorities have been directed to ensure strict enforcement of these orders. This is an urgent notice.”
According to news agency PTI, the district administrations and police officials have asked residents to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary movement. In Barmer, warning sirens were sounded to alert people about the seriousness of the situation. Police teams have also intensified patrolling and announcements were made via police vehicles and public address systems to inform the public about the alert.
Markets in Barmer and Jaisalmer have also been closed as a precautionary measure. A similar situation was observed in the Bikaner and Sri Ganganagar districts, where a high alert was also declared.
Multiple drone attacks were attempted by Pakistan on the night of Friday in Jaisalmer and Barmer districts. However, the drones were neutralized mid-air by the Indian defence forces. Debris of suspected drones were found at different locations in Barmer and Jaisalmer district Saturday morning.
Meanwhile, in a decisive response to Pakistan’s aggressive actions along the western border and Line of Control (LoC), the Indian Armed Forces on Saturday targeted critical Pakistani military installations, including technical facilities, command and control centres, radar sites, and ammunition strongholds, ANI reported.
Addressing a joint press conference by the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Defence on Operation Sindoor, Indian Army Colonel Sofiya Qureshi stated that precision strikes were carried out on Pakistani military targets in Rafiqui, Murid, Chaklala, Rahim Yar Khan, Sukkur, and Chunian, as well as radar sites at Pasrur and Sialkot aviation bases, using air-launched weapons from Indian fighter aircraft.
She further noted that the precision targeting was done to minimise any collateral damage, reiterating India’s commitment to not wanting to escalate the situation.
