India-Pakistan tensions: Anushka Sharma once recalled her dad fighting Kargil war: ‘My mom would get…’
During the period of national turmoil, it’s usually the resilience of our soldiers and their families that turns out to be the pillar of the nation’s strength. Amid the tensions again rising between India and Pakistan, citizens throughout the country are showing profound respect and patriotic pride for the Indian Armed Forces. While the rest of us get to enjoy the luxury of quiet nights, our jawans patrol the borders, laying down their lives for the nation without a second thought. Their unshakeable dedication and the quiet resilience of their families are a reminder of what real courage and sacrifice entail.
Just like us civilians who are currently all bowed in reverence to our defence forces, actress Anushka Sharma, known for her commanding presence on screen, has also resonated with this feeling. Taking to her Instagram, Anushka recently posted a warm appreciation to the Indian Army and their families. She posted, “Eternally grateful to our Indian Armed Forces for keeping us safe through these times like the heroes that they are. Heartfelt gratitude to the sacrifices they and their families have made. Jai Hind.”
This post strikes particularly close to home for Anushka, whose father is Colonel (Retd.) Ajay Kumar Sharma. Her father had been a member of the Indian Army for many decades and participated in all major battles beginning from 1982, including Operation Bluestar and the Kargil War. Anushka was barely 11 years old when her father went out for duty during the Kargil War in 1999.
In an interview with ETimes in 2012, she reminisced about her war child memories. “Kargil was a struggle,” she exclaimed. “I was scared of seeing my mother. She would always have the news channel switched on throughout the day and would get upset when casualties were announced.
Recalling how unaware she was of the gravity of the war, she added, “When my dad called, he could not say much, but I would go on talking about my school, boyfriends and everything else without realising that he was fighting a war.” She also shared that her bond with her father remains incredibly strong, and that more than being an actor, she takes greater pride in being an army officer’s daughter.
On the work front, Anushka is currently on break however, her voice still echoes across millions of people who idolize her. Her tribute also reminds us of a powerful fact that every soldier has a family serving too, quietly, dauntlessly, and with unshakeable fortitude.
