India-Pakistan tensions: RKM general secretary Swami Suvirananda praises ‘Operation Sindoor’

The Ramakrishna Mission and Ramakrishna Math (RKM) has backed the Indian Army’s ‘Operation Sindoor’, launched in the aftermath of the killing of 26 Hindu tourists in Kashmir. Swami Suvirananda, the general secretary of RKM, said that the ongoing military operation is the war of common people.
"Anyone who tries to harm Mother India will be met with a strong response from us, her children," he said during an event organised by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) on Friday at Belur Math, the headquarters of Swami Vivekananda-founded RKM.
“This is the India of Vivekananda and Ramakrishna. From the very dawn of civilisation, this land has been home to countless sages and seers. If anyone dares to harm even the slightest part of India, the nation will not remain silent. It will strike back,” he said.
Swami Suvirananda described 'Operation Sindoor' as not only spiritually justified but also aligned with scriptural principles, calling it a battle of good versus evil, a fight for righteousness over injustice, and a clash of civilisation against barbarism.
Meanwhile, West Bengal Leader of the Opposition, Suvendu Adhikari, cited the RKM general secretary’s statement to criticise an upcoming rally in Kolkata on May 12, organised by intellectuals and civil society members advocating for de-escalation and peace between India and Pakistan.
Sharing a video of Swami Suvirananda’s address on his official social media platforms, he wrote, “This '#NoToWar, YesToPeace' brigade seems to forget a fundamental truth that India has never been the aggressor, but we reserve every right to defend ourselves.”
He referred to these activists as "armchair theorists" and accused them of selective outrage, alleging that they don’t protest against provocations from Pakistan, China, Bangladesh, and extremist factions like Maoists and Naxalites.
This criticism came just a day after the leader of the opposition targeted the CPI(M), claiming the party failed to condemn Pakistan and instead ridiculed Prime Minister Narendra Modi following the announcement of mock military drills by the central government.
“They didn’t hold a single protest against Pakistan. Instead, they chose to mock the Prime Minister online. Since Operation Sindoor, they’ve gone completely quiet,” LoP Adhikari told reporters outside the West Bengal Assembly on Friday.
