Palghar, Maharashtra: A 32-year-old widow from Vasai East has filed a police complaint against a Nalasopara-based fish vendor, accusing him of rape, cheating, and defrauding her of ₹3 lakh under the false pretense of marriage.

According to the FIR filed at Waliv Police Station, the complainant, Khairulnisha Mohammad Sultan Shaikh, a resident of Vasai East, alleges that the accused, Zahir Khan, initiated a relationship with her in November 2024, gaining her confidence by posing as a sincere suitor. She claims that over the next five months, Khan repeatedly sexually assaulted her while making false promises of marriage and assurances that he would look after her and her two children, as she was a widow.

The victim stated that believing Khan’s repeated assurances, she continued the relationship. During this time, she alleges, Khan also tricked her into handing over a total of ₹3,00,000 on various false grounds.

She approached the police on May 9, 2025, upon realizing that he had no intention of marrying her. Police have registered a case under Sections 376 (rape), 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and 417 (cheating by personation) of the Indian Penal Code. As of now, Zahir Khan has not been arrested, and the investigation is currently underway.

Officials have assured that appropriate legal steps will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
