New Delhi: The women’s T20 World Cup qualifier match between the UAE and Qatar took an unexpected twist as the UAE adopted an unconventional strategy to stay in control. Batting first, the entire UAE lineup voluntarily retired, with all ten players stepping aside during their innings.

Notably, the UAE women’s team began their innings with openers Esha Oza and Theertha Satish, who put up impressive knocks of 113 and 74 runs, respectively. With the scoreboard reading 192 without loss after 16 overs and rain clouds gathering, the UAE opted for a strategic move—retiring each batter voluntarily to conclude their innings, as formal declarations are not permitted in T20 matches.
Due to the series of retirements, the UAE innings featured eight scoreless batters—setting a record for the most ducks in a women’s T20I. Despite this, they managed a formidable total of 192 runs in just 16 overs.
When Qatar began their chase, the UAE’s unconventional strategy proved highly effective. Qatar’s innings started with Rizpha Bano Emmanuel contributing 20 runs off 29 balls. However, her teammates Khadija Imtiaz, Christeena Jacob, and captain Aysha were all dismissed without scoring.
Following the early collapse, Angeline Mare added 5 runs and Shahreen Bahadur chipped in with 2. The rest of the lineup fell without scoring a run. UAE’s dominant bowling display saw Qatar bowled out for only 29, sealing a commanding win.
The UAE women’s team dismissed Qatar for just 29 runs, securing a dominant 163-run victory in a remarkable display. Qatar’s innings lasted only 11.1 overs, with just three players managing to score any runs in their chase. With this comprehensive triumph, UAE continued to lead the table, holding firmly onto the top position with four points.
