India Pak Tensions Live: Situation 'Normal' On Western Borders, Red Alert In Effect In Amritsar
India Pakstan Tensions Live Updates: After four days of intense firing and cross-border attacks, India and Pakistan on Saturday agreed to stop all firings and military actions on land, air, and sea with immediate effect.
However, barely hours after the ceasefire was announced by US President Donald Trump, a series of drone sightings rocked Jammu and Kashmir in the night followed by explosions, prompting security personnel to engage air defence systems to bring them down.
India accused Pakistan of breaching the bilateral understanding reached by the two countries, which Islamabad said to agree to with " no preconditions, no postconditions, and no links to other issues."
Addressing a media briefing, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri called upon Islamabad to take appropriate actions to address these violations and deal with the situation with "seriousness and responsibility".
"For the last few hours, there have been repeated violations of the understanding arrived at earlier this evening between the Directors General of Military Operations of India and Pakistan," he said.
US President Donald Trump announced in a surprise post on Truth Social that India and Pakistan reached an understanding. "After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE," he said.
He congratulated both countries "on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence" and thanked India and Pakistan for "attention to this matter".
The ceasefire came into effect four days after the militaries of both countries targeted each other's installations in a phase that marked the most severe confrontation after India's 'Operation Sindoor'.
The intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, however, seemed peaceful with no drones, firing, or shelling reported from several places in Jammu and Kashmir, including Jammu, Srinagar, Akhnoor, and Poonch.
Power has been restored in Punjab as well where blackout was enforced after the violation of the ceasefire. In a statement, District Commissioner, Amritsar informed that red alert was still in effect and sirens will be sounded to alert about the same.
