Mumbai Crime News: Dahisar Police Register Case Against 8 For Kidnapping, Extortion Of 36-Year-Old Man Over Kandivali Property Dispute

Mumbai: The Dahisar police have registered an FIR against eight individuals for allegedly kidnapping and extortion. The accused allegedly abducted a 36-year-old man from under the National Park Metro Station in Borivali East and took him to Vasai, where they assaulted him and demanded ₹5 lakh. They also attempted to extort ₹1.40 lakh from the victim’s wife.

About The Case

According to the FIR, the victim, a 36-year-old unemployed man residing in Mira Road East, had purchased a 3bhk flat in Kandivali West in February 2012. In 2017, his maternal uncle allegedly asked him to transfer the flat in his name to help close a loan. The victim claims that when he refused, his maternal uncle filed a false POCSO case against him, as a result of which he was jailed from March 2017 to November 2023.

The victim further alleges that while he was in jail, his uncle, along with another man, forged documents related to the flat and sold it to a man. After his release, the victim filed a cheating case against eight individuals regarding the flat's sale at the Samta Nagar police station in March 2025. Since then, the accused had allegedly been pressuring him to withdraw the case. All eight had also applied for anticipatory bail in the Dindoshi court.

On May 8, 2025, while the victim was heading to the Dindoshi court for a hearing on his scooter, he was intercepted at 4:45 p.m. near the National Park Metro Station on the northbound Western Express Highway in Borivali East. A red car stopped in front of him, and five individuals forced him into the vehicle. He was seated between two men in the back seat, while the driver and another man sat in the front. A fifth accused followed them on the victim’s scooter.

During the journey to Vasai, the kidnappers beat and verbally abused him, threatening further harm if he raised an alarm. Around 8 p.m., they reached Sativali in Vasai, where his uncle and cousin were already present. The accused then brutally assaulted the victim, fracturing his left leg near the knee. They made a video call to the victim's maternal uncle, showing him the assault. The maternal uncle allegedly instructed them to beat him further if he refused to withdraw the case. Out of fear, the victim agreed.

The accused then demanded ₹5 lakh. The victim called his wife, who said she could arrange ₹1.50 lakh. One of the accused accompanied the victim to Dahisar on scooter to collect the money. When they reached Anand Nagar Metro Station in Dahisar East, the victim’s wife arrived with ₹1.40 lakh and was accompanied by some relatives. At the scene, the victim shouted for help, alerting passersby. A crowd gathered, and after he revealed he had been kidnapped and the man with him was collecting extortion money, the mob caught and beat the accused.

The victim and his wife then took the accused to the police station. The person identified himself as a 19-year-old man, a resident of Vasai. He also revealed the names of his accomplices.

The police have registered a case against under sections 137(2) (kidnapping) and 308(2) (extortion), along with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, on May 9.
