Delhi Khap launches campaign to tackle cancer across villages

The fourth death anniversary of Late Chaudhary Ramkaran Solanki, the former head of Palam 360 Khap, was marked by the launch of the “Cancer-Free Delhi Rural Campaign" at Amrics Cancer Hospital in Dwarka Sector-19 on Saturday.

The health initiative, spearheaded by his son and current Khap head Chaudhary Surendra Solanki, seeks to increase cancer awareness and improve access to regular health checkups across the rural belt of Delhi. The campaign is rooted in the vision of making early detection and timely treatment accessible to communities that often face barriers to healthcare.

Addressing the gathering, Surendra Solanki vowed to carry forward his father’s legacy of community service and rural advocacy. “Just as my father championed the causes of Delhi’s rural communities for over 15 years, I commit to transforming this campaign into a people’s movement against cancer," he declared.

The initiative is a collaborative endeavour between Amrics Cancer Hospital and the residents of Palam 360, aiming to bridge the rural-urban divide in healthcare accessibility. It focuses on creating awareness about cancer risks, promoting routine screenings, and educating families about prevention and early warning signs.

Prominent political and community leaders were present at the launch, underscoring the importance of such grassroots movements. Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Ramveer Singh Bidhuri, lauded Solanki’s efforts, describing him as “a unifying figure for all 36 communities." He commended the continuation of Ramkaran Solanki’s legacy through his son’s leadership.

The event drew a wide spectrum of attendees including Members of Parliament Chandan Chauhan and Avtar Bhadana, Members of the Legislative Assembly, local Pradhans, and influential figures from the cultural community. Haryanvi artists Pradeep Bura, Pooja Hooda, and Vicky Kajla also lent their support, adding to the community-driven spirit of the campaign.
