Infosys is often associated with Murthy family members like Narayana Murthy, his wife Sudha Murty, or their children, Akshata and Rohan Murty. However they are not the largest shareholders in terms of percentage in Infosys. But India’s largest insurer, the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) is the biggest shareholder in the IT firm.

LIC: Infosys’ Biggest Stakeholder

LIC has the highest number of a 9.531% stake in the company which is around 395,772,200 shares valued at Rs 8,694 crore. Over the past year, LIC has also increased its holdings in Infosys after its growth and performance.

The ownership structure of Infosys is diverse and has a mix of institutional investors and promoter holdings. Major stakeholders are:

SBI Funds Management Ltd.: The second-largest shareholder with a 4.210% stake, holds 174,813,735 shares of Rs 3,840 crore.

Sudha Gopalakrishnan: Wife of co-founder S. Gopalakrishnan, she owns a 2.297% stake with 95,357,000 shares of Rs 2,095 crore.

Murthy Family’s Share

Although the Murthy family doesn’t hold the largest stake, they have a good presence in company’s shareholdings

Rohan Murty: The largest shareholder in the family, owns 1.465% or 6.8 crore shares.

Akshata Murty: The wife of UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, holds 1.05% or around 3.89 crore shares.

Sudha Murty: Holds 0.93% or 3.45 crore shares.

Narayana Murthy: Owns a 0.36% stake, down from 0.40% after gifting shares to his grandson.

In 2023, Narayana Murthy gifted 15 lakh shares of Rs 240 crore to his grandson, Ekagrah Murty. Four-year-old became one of India’s youngest millionaires with a 0.04% stake.
