Jeff Bezos’ Amazon and Ratan Tata’s TCS end Work From Home for…, techies now have to…

Post-pandemic, the days of Work From Home in tech companies are over, and employees are now going to the office five to six days a week. However, two tech giants, Amazon and TCS, are drawing a hard line and restricting flexible schedules. It means no more remote freedom. The message from Amazon and TCS is very clear: show up to the office or say goodbye to growth.

During a recent summit, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy stated that office work builds real company culture. TCS CEO K Krithivasan also echoed the same sentiment. As per both the CEOs, in-person collaboration drives innovation, which is beneficial for the growth of the respective companies.

Amazon’s Return To Office Policy

The company’s CEO Andy Jassy strongly believes that office culture gets lost in remote setups and hybrid modes. He believes that casual conversations in the office and messy, long-hour meetings lead to big ideas that actually skyrocket company’s growth. And these things are required in every successful environment.

Amazon is revising its compensation structure, increasing salaries for consistently high-performing, long-tenured employees.

Employees who consistently receive performance awards for four years will receive a 110 percent salary increase. First-time award recipients will receive a 70 percent increase, down from 80 percent previously.

The company is also trimming layers. Which means less managers and more workers.

TCS Work From Updates

The Indian tech giant TCS is getting strict for its return-to-office rules and handling WFH transition very smoothly. The company started applying hybrid option of a three-day office in 2024. Now, the company is calling some teams five days a week. the managers are implementing the plan team by team as per company’s business needs.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) prioritises in-person work to foster mentorship, collaboration, and trust among employees. To facilitate this transition, the company is offering teams flexibility and time to adapt. This approach emphasises sustainable growth rather than simply tracking attendance.

How Is This Going To Impact Indian Techies?

Indian IT companies like TCS and multinational corporations like Amazon, with heavy Indian workforces, are actively involved in current industry changes.

Mandatory returns to the office will majorly impact employees’ daily routines, particularly those who relocated during the period of remote work. Reduced office presence may hinder career advancement by limiting visibility and opportunities for professional growth, potentially affecting promotions, mentorship, and skill development.
