IPL 2025 Set for Double Headers? BCCI Asks Teams To Return By Tuesday, Final Call Expected Soon: Report

In a major development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has directed all Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises except Punjab Kings to report to their designated venues by Tuesday, signaling a swift resumption of the tournament after its abrupt suspension on Friday due to escalating border tensions.

According to Indian Express report, the BCCI has verbally informed teams of its intention to issue a revised schedule soon, with an aim to complete the season by its originally slated date, May 25. With 12 matches remaining, the board is now considering back-to-back double headers to wrap up the league within the timeline.

“All franchises have been told to inform their teams to report to their respective destination by Tuesday,” a BCCI source confirmed. “Punjab will have a neutral venue, so their destination is yet to be confirmed. The board is planning more double headers so that they can finish the IPL as per its scheduled day.”

IPL chairman on restarting ongoing season

While most overseas players and support staff flew home the same evening the IPL was suspended, franchises have now begun coordinating their return following the BCCI's latest directive. They have also been told to inform their foreign players and support staff to be ready for travel at short notice.

This revival of the IPL comes in the wake of the India-Pakistan ceasefire announcement on Saturday, which has paved the way for sports activities to resume.

IPL chairman Arun Dhumal on Saturday said, “Ceasefire has just been announced. We now explore the possibility of resuming and concluding the IPL. If it is possible to conduct it immediately… We need to work out the venue dates and everything, and we would now be speaking to all the stakeholders, including team owners, broadcasters, and everyone involved and find a way as to how to move forward. Most importantly, we will have to consult with the government.”

Has the venue being decided for reminder fo the tournament?

Chennai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad were among the venues previously shortlisted for the remaining games, but a final call will only be made after discussions with government authorities.
